Living life in the moment

I love the unexpected, and today was perfect. Cassie and I headed down to our nearby park to play pass with the football. It wasn’t even our second throw until we we’re asked by a couple of random people if we wanted to join a game they already had going. We tossed our football to the side and jumped in. It wasn’t long until we were all celebrating touchdowns and cheering on total strangers. Cassie made a few big catches and was a force to reckon with on defense. While I shinned as quarterback and receiver. After our game was finished they were all talking about what to do next week. Sure enough this ragtag group of people were from meetup.com. I’ve never really had a lot of success through that site but today with a little happenstance and a friendly group we had a blast slipping and sliding in the mud.

Small adventures await

I’m happy to say that a few small trips have recently been added to our schedule. First up is a quick trip down to Portland to spend Thanksgiving weekend with some wonderful friends. I’m super excited for this trip since we will be taking the Amtrak train down from Seattle. This is a beautiful ride and it only takes a few hours, plus there will be no traffic! If the weather is nice I’m thinking we might take our bikes and explore Portland on two wheels.

For our second trip we will be flying down to Tucson to spend the holidays with family. While this trip is usually a bit stressful because there is so many people to see it’s always fun. I’m usually most excited for the food to be honest, my mom’s breakfast with enough Crisco to kill a man while still eating. I also love the quiet candlelit dinners at Cassie’s mom’s house where it’s so dark you can hardly see your food.

We will also get to meet our friends newborn. Hopefully the kid will be crying and puking up everywhere. (It works as a natural birth control)

Happy fun travel blog

While I know there are many great travel blogs out there I’ve always enjoyed this couples in-depth posts. Happy Fun Travels, I also love there blog name. Unfortunately this couple have already completed there travels through Asia and India. I’ll post additional blogs I like when I run across them. I already have a few in mind that I think are worth mentioning. I’m also going to be adding a section to this site which will highlight sites, books and movies we think are informative about vagabonding.

Cya wheels

I’m extremely happy to write that our car has been sold. This was one of the major items that needed to be dealt with before we left and it’s now out of the way. While I thought selling our car would be tough with this economy it actually sold pretty quickly. After it was posted on craigslist it only took about a week before it had a new owner. I’m also happy to say that we sold it with our University of Arizona sticker still on the back window. Go Cats!

In other great news it looks like the school loan is almost complete, which is ahead of schedule. Only a few more weeks left before we celebrate with some tasty brews. I think I’ll put aside the cheap Rainier for a night and drink a few microbrews instead for this special occasion. Although the money saved from drinking Rainier is really nice.

It's not the destination, but the journey

It’s funny how Cassie and I are still months out from leaving but I felt like this quote still holds so much truth in it, especially for the both of us right now. We are not even close to reaching our travel destination but it doesn’t mean we’re not already on this journey together. I think it all started for us at Roy St. Coffee and Tea when we decided to pay off my loan beforehand. Setting us back atleast 9 months. When you have been talking about doing something for a few years and you decide to push it back from your expected date it seems like an eternity before you. In reality these months will fly by, which I have to keep reminding myself day after day.

So when I think about this I have to say, it feels good to know that we have started. We might not be on that plane quite yet but realizing that we’re on our path brings a sense of calmness over me. In a sense, we are already here.
