Choose your food wisely

While we've had many interesting things to eat so far, last night was a first for chicken heart muscle. Yes, you read that right. I picked a dish from the all Korean menu that looked tasty only to find out it was chicken heart muscle. I'm going to try to avoid that dish for now on.

It's funny when you noticed you ordered the wrong dish. First you taste it, which is easy to figure out that you made a horrible decision. Then all the tables around you start giggling to their friends as they watch you try to eat it. Afterwards I asked the Korean guy next to me what it was, he sorta laughed before telling me. He said it's lean and healthy.

Unfourtantly that's not the worst part about this meal. I'm pretty sure I got ripped off paying for this heart muscle to boot.

Go Eagles!

A MLS game is a far cry from the excitment you'll have at a South Korean game. We went an watched the Hanwha Eagles vs. LG Twings. While these two photos don't give the crowd justice (my camera battery died before the first inning) the staduim became packed with fans. Twins sitting along first base line and Eagle fans along third base. We sat in the outfield where the fans were intermixed.

During the whole game you have non stop chants to root on your team, but only while they are up to bat. The fans were always respectful of the other team. You also had cheerleaders for both teams to get everybody pumped up. While the Eagles lost, we had a blast cheering for them with our entire row.

One other thing I loved was the ability to bring your own food and beer into the game. While we drank Cass beer again, you easily could have grabbed a few Max tall boy beers for barely over a $1 each.

Changdeokgung Palace

The changdeokgung Palace was the first major site we saw in Seoul, and it was spectacular. The palace was built as a secondary palace of the Joseon Dynasty in 1405, during King Taejong's reign. Changdeokgung served as the residence for many kings and later it became the main palace. Most of this palace was destroyed during the Japanese invasion in 1592. The palace was reconstruced in 1610 and served as the main palace for the next 270 years. View the entire photo gallery

What's on our backs?

Pretty much everything we own, well sorta. Fortantely some of our stuff was shipped down to Tucson, AZ for Cassie's mom to keep for us. I'm thinking somewhere around 20 boxes or so. We don't own much right now that's for sure.

On the left we have my pack weighing in at 22.5lbs plus a small tech bag weighing in at 13lbs. Cassie's sack on the far right tops the scale at 33lbs.

Hello Seoul

Walking around Seoul is a little surreal. This city is bursting with life. Subway lines are packed, streets are taken over by pedestrians and it's a shoppers dream. We finally found our hotel after a few wrong turns and set down our packs to start exploring. The nightlife in our neighborhood seems really good. Lots of people out walking drinking and chatting it up all around us. We had our first official Korean meal and it was delicioius. Spicy fried chicken with some sorta slaw.

After dinner we stopped into a local pub and had a few more cass bottled beers. It's a nice light beer which seemed perfect for the warm South Korean night. After our drinks it was straight to bed, 13 hour flights are exhausting.
